Textos Completos Autorizados

How MRI imaging for an ovarian cyst led to diagnosis of short cervix.

Fuente:Bmc Pregnancy and Childbirth

Tipo de trabajo:Caso clínico

Extracto: This case describes an unmeasurable cervix diagnosed incidentally during an MRI to characterize a large adnexal mass. In pregnancy, MRI can be a useful imaging modality to evaluate fetal anatomy, placental position and implantation, and abdominal and pelvic structures. In this case, evaluation of the uterus and cervix during imaging for an adnexal mass allowed for detection of an unmeasurable cervix and intervention with a rescue cerclage.

Breast Cancer Genetic Services in a South African Setting: Proband Testing, Cascading and Clinical Management.

Fuente:Cancer Medicine

Extracto: Genetic testing was well accepted by probands, but uptake was low in family members. Overall, one family member carrying a pathogenic variant was identified for every 13 probands receiving genetic counselling and for every 11 probands tested. Risk-reducing measures were taken up by over half of those eligible. Limited uptake of cascade testing and variable uptake of risk-reducing options impacted the programme. To our knowledge, this is the first study in Africa of the real-world effectiveness of a breast cancer genetic service.

Prevalence and risk factors for neonatal jaundice

Prevalence and risk factors for neonatal jaundice

Fuente:Bmj Open

Tipo de trabajo:Estudio multicéntrico

Extracto: Higher maternal age, prolonged labour, blood group ABO incompatibility, Rh incompatibility and neonatal sepsis are significant risk factors for neonatal jaundice. Efforts for prevention and timely management of ABO and Rh incompatibility, prolonged labour and neonatal sepsis are required to reduce cases of neonatal jaundice. Special attention should be given to newborns of older mothers and those born through vaginal delivery as they are at higher risk of developing neonatal jaundice. Further research is needed to conclusively identify the role of neonatal sex as a risk factor for neonatal jaundice.
