Ethnographic methodology within an environmental justice framework can be useful in monitoring the psychological and socio-cultural determinants of community health in unconventional oil and gas fields. This paper provides examples of such an approach via an ethnographic case study from fieldwork conducted from 2009-2011 in the Marcellus shale gas fields of rural Pennsylvania.
