UROFLOWMETRY IN A LARGE POPULATION OF ASYMPTOMATIC MEN
TThe aim of this study was to assess the uroflowmetry data in a large population of asymptomatic Brazilian men submitted to a health check up program and correlate this data with prostate symptoms and prostate size. A total of 1041 men between 40 and 70 men, with IPSS< 7 and PSA < 4.0 ng/ml were included in this analysis. The average population age was 49 years and the average flow rate was 17.4 ml/s. Despite of prostate size and symptoms increase with age, there was a weak correlation between different Qmax cutoffs (10 ml/s and 15 ml/s). Even men above 60 years old had average Qmax higher than 15 ml/s.
We believe that the establishment of a normal uroflow cutoff seems to be complicated and uroflowmetry data should be interpreted with caution in order to avoid misdiagnosis.
Qmax: maximum flow rate
