PSYCHIATRIC MORBIDITY IN IDIOPATHIC TRANSVERSE MYELITIS
Consecutive patients with idiopathic transverse myelitis and first-episode stroke (30 each) underwent two-stage screening for psychiatric morbidity. A high prevalence of psychological distress, psychiatric morbidity (principally major depression), and cognitive impairment was found in idiopathic TM, comparable to that found among patients with stroke. This morbidity was associated with greater disability.
