Saliva plays a critical role in protection and maintenance of the health of the oral cavity and is an important body fluid. Nitric oxide is a highly reactive free radical synthesized by the enzyme nitric oxide synthase by cells such as macrophages, T cells, and natural killer cells. There is a possible correlation between nitric oxide level and oral lichen planus.

In order to determine the roles of IL-1beta and IL-10 in the vitreous of PDR, we measured IL-1beta and IL-10 concentration by ELISA.
