Resumen
Este artigo (artículo) tem como objetivo revisar a literatura sobre a associação entre uso de substâncias psicoativas e a incidência de violência doméstica, especialmente a perpetrada contra as mulheres. São abordadas a prevalência do problema, conseqüências para as vítimas, modelos explicativos do fenômeno e alternativas de intervenção e tratamento. Espera-se contribuir (Se espera contribuir) com o debate sobre o tema para que profissionais da área da saúde possam lidar (manejar) com o assunto de forma eficaz.

Domestic Violence Associated with the Use of Alcohol and Drugs

Abstract
This article reviews the literature about the association between the use of psychoactive substances and the incidence of domestic violence, specially the violence perpetrated against women. The following topics are considered: prevalence, consequences to the victims, models to explain the phenomenon, intervention, and treatment. This paper sheds light on the main issues related to the problem in such a way that health professionals should be able to identify and address its major consequences.
