It can involve the hepato-biliary system too. The disease burden can be addressed by mass eradication programme but still is a high cause of mortality, growth retardation and other morbidities. Susceptibility, worm load and other genetic factors are avenues for further research. Conservative treatment suffice, but surgery may be indicated in selected cases.
