Currently, from 60 to 80% of referred patients to the vascular lab do not have a deep vein thrombosis and spite of that they should be subjected to diagnostic screening tests.
Deep vein thrombosis and duplex scanning ultrasound

In an analysis of 528 symptomatic patients, approximately 36.4% of patients referred to a duplex scanning lab had deep vein thrombosis. When considering a deep vein thrombosis diagnosis, age > 65 years old, the presence of edema, pain, cancer, and suspected or proven pulmonary embolism should be considered major risk factors.
