NEONATAL VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY RICKETS

Doha, Qa: Newborns with severe VDD presented with hypocalcemia and increased alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and PTH compared to older infants with VDD. Serum calcium levels were correlated significantly with 25OH vitamin D and Mg concentrations. Radiological manifestations included metaphyseal band of lucency (osteopenia) within distal radius, femur, and/or tibia with mild cupping.
