HEPATIC ENCEPHALOPATHY

A high percentage of patients with chronic liver disease progresses to cirrhosis complicated by hepatic encephalopathy (HE). This presents with neurological impairments ranging from subclinical dysfunction to coma. Its management is based on eliminating the precipitating factors and decreasing the toxin load with adequate bowel motions or altering bowel flora.
