Bile acid receptor as potential therapeutic target
BILE ACIDS RELAX LOWER ESOPHAGEAL SPHINCTER VIA G-PROTEIN COUPLED RECEPTORS

Bile acids help fat digestion in the gastrointestinal tract. Bile acids can also act as hormones. Activation of G-protein coupled bile receptors by bile acids relaxes gastrointestinal muscles including the lower esophageal sphincter. The bile acid receptor might be a potential therapeutic target for treating gastro-esophageal reflux disease.
